May 9th-18th 2008, Another successful Thornbury Arts Festival. The Festival opened on Friday May 9th with Brian Rix, Baron Rix of Whitehall, presenting an evening of life on stage, campaigning with MENCAP, and in the Lords. To coincide with the O2 exhibition Joyce Tyldesley explored the evidence of the tombs. The Thornbury Choir presented an evening of eastern European music and Thornbury's own inventive comedian Greg McLaren built a time machine following an introductory session with singer Nick Langston. The celebrated piano duo Nettle and Markham and The BOV Theatre School visited in midweek and Tango:Nuevo and Mr Acker Bilk and His Paramount Jazz band appeared as a late replacement for Humphrey Lyttelton to bring the Festival to a rousing climax. There was the usual full and varied programme in Festival Week and the Open Studios Arts Trail was even bigger and enjojed a successful third year. |
