The Woodturner’s Craft

by Avon and Bristol Woodturners

This group of enthusiastic woodturners and woodworkers are making a most welcome return to Thornbury following their first visit five years ago. Formed in 1989 and with an ever growing membership, they are eager to improve their own skills and teach their craft to novices through organised workshops, whilst also embracing new technologies. They have exhibited and demonstrated their work at many different venues across the area and, since 1996, have focussed particularly on the annual three-day "Festival of Wood" at the Westonbirt Arboretum which raises funds for tree planting in Africa.

From Buildings to Bookends

Timothy Richards, who was born in Thornbury, works from his base in Keynsham creating architectural models and bookends. These are well researched and completely true to the originals. Only traditional materials, such as British Gypsum plaster, are used with additional detail added in etched brass, lead and copper. He has built up a reputation for work of exquisite detail and taste.

Annie
Tempest

This display of cartoons by Annie Tempest is brought to us by Number 12 Queen Street Gallery in Bath. Annie is well known through her association with Country Life magazine. Tottering-By-Gently is a fictional village in which the big house is occupied by Lord and Lady Tottering. Their lives and those of their friends, including batty majors, wax-jacketed ladies with a weight problem and anglers convinced they will finally land a large salmon, are illustrated by Annie.
