A performance with humour, energy and gentle pathos following the fortunes of 3 young people who were evacuated to this area from London in World War Two. It explores everyday life through their curious eyes, a life of rationing, paint lines around the bath and "Make Do and Mend" The Successful Macbeth and The Odyssey Schools Tours by The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School offered a rich theatrical experience for children aged 7-11. The BOV now presents in songs and poems the real-life memories of local people telling the story of what it was like to be a child in the Second World War. |
The performance is completely self-contained and runs for one hour, it is an ideal stimulus for classes studying the period or their local history. |

Aileen Tucker and her daughter Gail run Merry Minature Gourmets in Bath. They specialise in creating complete menus for dolls' houses, the food is totally accurate from entree to pudding for the historical period of the doll's house. For instance, a typical menu for a small-scale country house would include oysters and prawns on a bed of seaweed as a starter, trout with herbs and almonds served with a julienne of carrots, beef wellington as the main course, rounded off by a jelly surrounded with flowers, with dessert grapes and petit fours to finish. Prepare to be amazed by the detail in the room boxes which Gail brings with her to illustrate her fascinating subject. |

This side-splitting one-man show is based on the first comic strip hero, Ally Sloper. The date is 1897 – Ally is hoping for a peerage and eagerly awaits the arrival of Queen Victoria, who is to visit his newspaper office. Ally is a social climber and, while waiting for the Queen, takes us on a journey through the social calendar – that annual ritual when the cream of society is seen to be in the right place at the right time. Chris Harris has worked extensively in television and radio and with leading UK theatre companies including the RSC and Bristol Old Vic, where he was also a visiting lecturer and director. He has toured the world directing and lecturing on drama and performing his five one-man shows and is a recognised authority on pantomime. |
