The Magic of Light

Thornbury
Art Club

"The Magic of Light" is the theme for 2001 for Thornbury Art Club, now enjoying its 41st year. From small beginnings the club membership has grown to well over 80 individuals who enjoy a varied monthly programme of talks and demonstrations by visiting artists. The knowledge shared by these professionals is reflected in the work on show. The paintings, most of which are for sale, are executed in oils, watercolour, acrylics, pastel and mixed media.

Harry Blunos

Leon Blunos

Peter Todd

Harry Blunos lives in the beautiful city of Riga in Latvia and he is a past President of Riga Academy. Harry has exhibited in Paris, Malmo, Moscow, St Petersburg, Bath and Riga. His paintings are strongly expressive and reflect the Eastern European tradition of water colour.

Leon Blunos, Harry's brother, was born in Latvia and lives in Thornbury. He has exhibited with Thornbury Art Club for many years and is a versatile painter in various mediums. His work covers portraiture, landscape and, occasionally, abstract painting.

Peter Todd lives in Thornbury and has also exhibited with Thornbury Art Club. He has painted with Harry and Leon on the Baltic coast in Latvia and exhibited in Dorset, Surrey, Lancashire and Germany. He is a watercolour painter interested in the effects of climate and light on landscape and the individual structural elements in landscape.

Bath
Aqua Glass

This exhibition features the work of a young company, Bath Aqua Glass. This lovely glass is made by adding copper oxide to molten glass giving it the aquamarine colour reminiscent of Bath's Hot Springs. The designs take inspiration from ancient Roman glass vessels. We see the renowned Bristol Blue Glass and the recently revived Victorian style Cranberry Glass. There is also an unusual display of stained glass mirrors and wall hangings together with other studio work, where not even the broken pieces of glass are wasted!
